Chelsea fan and author, Kelvin Barker said: “This is a wonderfully moving idea of Joey's family.

“He was a cult hero for us at Chelsea and I know he was the same at the other clubs for which he played. I know that different Chelsea fans will make the trip to Wrexham and we will wear the blue colors that Joey wore so much proudly.

“It is rare that one player can be such a hero at so many clubs – that is a real proof of Joey as a football player, but more importantly as a fantastic man.”

Jones died last month at the age of 70. He won the European Cup (Champions League) for Liverpool.

The defender was immortalized when Liverpool supporters removed a banner memorable during the European Cup final of 1977 against Borussia Monchengladbach who had already defeated Saint Etienne and FC Zurich.

It was famous: “Joey ate the frogs, made the Swiss roll, now he chews Gladbach.” The family has asked that donations in memory of Joey are made to the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Dementia UK and Dogs Trust.
