John Wayne Parr loved sparring Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan once threw off a whole street gang that threatened to rob him. So it is honest to say that he knows how to take care of himself.
In the presence of John Wayne Parr, however, he was a student and learned from a master in the art of eight limbs.
'The Gunslinger' is now open about his crazy journey to America to appear on the podcast of the UFC commentator, and how it resulted in the couple with a playful sparring session.
In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, Parr explained: “I was lucky that I was on the podcast twice and once on the fighting companion. I don't know how it happened, but years ago there was a hashtag from Get John Wayne on Joe Rogan and that went a few weeks.
“Then Joe Rogan suddenly answered and said,” I would like to put on John Wayne, I am a big fan. “I sent him a DM and said,” Hey, I am John Wayne, is there a chance that I can book “? He said,” Yes, sure. ”
“So I went to the airport, turned my phone off and flew to America. When I switched on my phone, there was a message from Joe and said:” I know we have the podcast tomorrow, but we do the Fight Companion tonight, do you want to come to the studio and do it with us “?
“So I grabbed my bag and immediately went to the studio. After the combat companion, Joe goes:” That was cool, tomorrow morning, you want to come to my house and do a training session, and then we will do the podcast in the afternoon, and we have something to talk about “? I said,” I can certainly do that. “
“I came to his house, and I didn't want to be intimidated by Joe's superstar, so I just treated it as a normal PT. It was so cool. During a whole hour we have techniques and theories about how they could throw different things.
“In the end I asked:” Is there a chance that we can do a light round of sparring, just for fun, so I can say I am sparing you '? He is going:' I have a bit of a bulging disc, but I am happy to move '.
“We did three minutes, just fun, move and a little giggling. I said:” Do you mind if I put this on YouTube “? He goes:” Yes, go for it. “
“So I shared the sparing round, and the amount of comments was just ridiculous; everyone was just bad, Joe and said how bad he was with the technique. I was pretty good at the time, so it's not like it's Joe's wrong, plus Muay Thai is very different.
“So, the second time I did the podcast:” I said, Joe, I felt so bad, did you see the comments from when we spoke that time “? He goes:” I never look at the comments, if you do that, you're crazy “. I said:” I didn't do it because they were so bad. “
“People think that sparring is a fight, when it is just two guys who have a small movement and are a giggle. It's very sad.”
John Wayne Parr has become a stand-up comedian
Fighting is not the only thing that Parr and Rogan have in common, with the Thai boxer now moving to the comedy world.
He laughed: “As a child I moved a lot. I went to 11 different schools. So every time I moved, I always noticed that the funny man would save me from the bullies beaten up. Nobody wants to beat the funny guy.
'My father was also funny, and I always enjoyed how people reacted when he would tell jokes. I had something like: “One day I want to be like my father.”
“This year I decided to put on my white belt and actually agree. I have done three nights so far, and they have been so much fun.
“If I can walk for 100,000 people and fight a crazy Thais, walk outside for 100 people and tell some jokes, the worst thing that can happen is that they don't laugh. While if you fight a Thai you are trying to kill, it is a lot more painful. So what can go wrong?”
