Johnny Walker's brave decision at UFC Shanghai was quickly in danger.
On Saturday, the UFC senior censing battles saw in China for the first time this year, while the Shanghai Indoor Stadium hosted a number of matchups with ranked contenders and promising prospects.
Two five-rounders headed the map, with Johnny Walker Zhang Mingyang beat the main event and former Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and Brian Ortega moments previously defeated.
The victory of the Brazilian to close the map marked a large shock. While many had supported the home favorite to continue his series first round finishes, he eventually succumbed to a TKO himself after he was detected by legs in round two.
But the fight was not without opportunities for 'Mountain Tiger' to end things early …
Johnny Walker tried Khamzat Chimaev-like 'Fake Glove Touch' Takedown
From Derrick Lewis' crazy flying knee on UFC 291 to Jorge Masvidal's record -breaking Ko with the same movement, we have seen some unexpected moments directly from the gate in the Octagon.
And that was the case in Shanghai, when Walker shot for an immediate Takedown with double legs that would not have had much on their bingo cards.
To set it up, Walker apparently seemed to forget a glove -Touch while Mingyang crossed out his hand and the Chinese Ko artist wanted to surprise. The movement that eventually failed, while 'Mountain Tiger' ended up in the top position and the ground and pound began to rain on the experienced competition.
The opening for the fight was reminiscent of how Khamzat Chimaev started his path to the victory against Kevin Holland on UFC 279. Chimaev was crashed for a controversial movement that touched him a glove before he dragged down 'Big Mouth' and was to a quick submission.
Fans compare Johnny Walker's 'Fake Glove Touch' with controversial Khamzat Chimaev -Moment
Fans soon saw the similarities between Walkers UFC Shanghai plan and the Movement of Chimaev against Holland – Only, things did not go as planned for the first.
The Brazilian was hilariously plagued because he tried in vain to replicate the newly crowned middleweight king. Chimaev dominated Dricus du Plessis earlier this month on UFC 319 to collect the 185-pound gold.
While he was preparing to headline the first event since that Chicago PPV, Walker looked at Channel to channel his inner Chimaev by shaving his mustache and rocking the look of the Chechen star.
“Look too many khamzat reels.”
“Bro thought he was Khamzat. Johnny Walker is the best.”
“The man thought he had superior struggle after shaving his mustache.”
“That is classic Johnny Walker Energy Unpredictable and Unforgettable every time!”
“Bro tried to be Khamzat.”
Bro tried to be Khamzat 🥲🥲😤

“Thought it would be for Johnny for Johnny within 2 minutes later.”
“Johnny Chimaev.”
“Johnny Walk really thought he was Khamzat Chimaev, but it was massively confused and ended up on the bottom within 5 seconds.”
After surviving the less than ideal start and gathering to put Mingyang in round two, Walker will probably look back and laugh to his daring movement to start the fight.
