Jon Jones congratulates Dustin Poirier on retiring only a few days after he announced his comeback

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Jones shocked the MMA world when he abruptly announced his retirement last month. But only a few weeks after he hung up the gloves, Jones announced his intentions to return to the Octagon in 2026 for an unprecedented UFC event.

After looking at Poirier's pension fight and reversing his own retirement, Jones went to social media to applaud Poirier on his last hurray at UFC 318.

In a post-fighting post on X, Jones had awe for Poirier and Holloway's trilogy on UFC 318.

“That's what you call a rivalry,” said Jones.

While Poirier spoke with his two -time rival, Daniel Cormier, after UFC 318, Jones took to X to express his respect to the future UFC Hall of Famer.

“Congratulations on a great career Dustin, thanks for the years of entertainment. Go now enjoy your pension!” Jones tweeted.

Poirier withdraws as one of the greatest hunters who never wins a linear UFC title in the history of sport. Poirier won the interim UFC light weight title about Holloway on UFC 236 to go to 2-0 about his rival.

In the meantime, Holloway avoids two trilogies in his UFC career with the victory over Poirier. He has lost three times to Alexander Volkanovski in their UFC official period.

Jon Jones returned the course on UFC pension after the amazing announcement of the US President

As Poirier says goodbye to MMA, Jones will look to remind Vecht fans of his greatness in his intended return to the cage next summer. US President Donald Trump rocked the sports world when he announced that the UFC will organize an event on the White House Gazon in July.

Jones has not fought anymore since the beating of Stipe Miocic on UFC 309 in November in his only UFC Heavyweight Defense Defense. He assured the then vacant heavyweight belt by submitting Ciryl Gane to UFC 285.

After Jones's retirement, Tom Aspinall was promoted to undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion from his interim title role. Aspinall broke an undesirable record as the longest submitted UFC-Interim title holder in the history of the promotion.

Jones and Poirier will probably enter the 'Fighter Wing' of the UFC Hall of Fame in the near future.
