Jon Jones takes on Colby Covington after his loss at UFC Tampa
One person who was extremely happy to see Covington left in a bloody mess was UFC heavyweight king Jon Jones.
At the UFC Tampa media day on the Wednesday before his return fight, Covington bizarrely decided to attack Jones and label him a “disgrace to this earth.”
The two have a long-standing feud with each other, dating back to their time together at Central Iowa Community College, where they were actually roommates.
Things seemingly got extremely bitter between the two and after Covington's pre-fight comments about him, Jones decided to get one back after his performance.
“Big shoutout to Colby Covington for skipping practice to get President Trump 'ready' – we all appreciate the sacrifice. At least he saw me win,” Jones said in a tweet on X.
After his loss, 'Chaos' blamed Covington on the fact that, instead of having a training camp, he helped Donald Trump 'prepare' for the US elections.
Even though the fight took place in Florida and Trump lived near the area, he did not attend the Covington fight. However, he was present for Jones' fight at UFC 309 last November, and Jones celebrated his victory by doing the signature “Trump dance.”
After a fan asked him why he kicked Covington while he was down, Jones said, “I know I shouldn't do that, but it's just so much fun. It's funny to see someone you know hate you repeatedly failing.”
Dana White '100%' sure the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight will happen
Although Jones didn't compete last weekend, he was a big talking point for UFC CEO Dana White, who provided an update on Jones' potential fight against Tom Aspinall.
Following his win over Stipe Miocic, Jones claimed he needed 'f*ck you money' to fight Aspinall in a title unification bout and would likely retire rather than fight the Brit.
However, White is now '100%' convinced that 'Bones' will stay on to unify the title against Aspinall in what he believes will be the 'greatest heavyweight fight in UFC history'.
