Jon Jones’s biggest rival makes surprising prediction for how Tom Aspinall fight would’ve played out

UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier shared his prediction for Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall.

Since he hung up the MMA gloves in 2020, Daniel Cormier has become one of the most recognizable voices in sports broadcasts. He is a common presence on UFC Pay-per-View broadcasts alongside Joe Rogan and Play-by-Play Omroep Jon Anik.

Because of its UFC roll from color analyst, Cormier is not allowed to make predictions for upcoming UFC fights. It is a trend that Rogan also stayed away during his career, despite his huge podcast audience.

But Cormier seized the opportunity to predict how one of the most desired battles of the UFC would have played.

Daniel Cormier Details how Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall would have looked like

Jon Jones sent shock waves around MMA when he announced his retirement last month. Interim heavyweight title holder Tom Aspinall was promoted to undisputed heavyweight champion after the announcement of Jones.

The news came after months of back and forth negotiations between Jones, Aspinall and the UFC to make a title Unification Bout. Aspinall held the interim title for almost two full years when Jones fought against Stipe Miocic on UFC 309 in November.

Cormier, who shares a versatile history with Jones, has publicly beaten his former rival for 'stop' before fighting Asinall. Despite his hard rhetoric, Cormier took his side how he believes that the fight with Aspinall would have played.

During a recent appearance on the pound cast of Pound 4 Pound, Cormier shared his prediction for the now -called Jones vs. Aspinall fight.

“Give my head, I think Jon Tom beats Tom,” said Cormier. “I would have said he will probably beat him now. Because, guess? Tom was never pushed into those championship rounds.

'Say that Ciryl is pushing [Aspinall] 25 minutes. When he beats Ciryl Gane, but he learns to go 25 minutes, where you feel it for the first time [gasps for air]” [and he’s] Must get up after the third round of that stool …

Aspinall never fought past the second round in his MMA career. In his two UFC title fights against Curtis Blaydes and Sergei Pavlovich, both matchups ended by Knockout in the first round.

In his career, Jones went the full distance of five laps several times, also in his first of two fights with Cormier. He deserved grim decision victories on people like Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira and Dominick Reyes during his light heavyweight title.

Despite the current UFC fan sentiment, the Jones is vs. Aspinall fight may not be a lost cause for much longer.

Jon Jones gave an intriguing response to the potential UFC event in the White House

Jones raised eyebrows when he announced just a few days ago that he returned the UFC's drug test pool. He must be in the pool for at least six months before he is eligible to possibly return to the Octagon.

In the meantime, US President Donald Trump suggested an idea that Jones can lure back to the Octagon. President Trump announced that the UFC intends to organize an event in the White House in 2026, which called on an intriguing reaction from Jones.

As an image of Jones who defeated Aspinall in the White House, Jones answered by saying “I like this”, a nod to a potential comeback. Conor McGregor showed a similar interest in a UFC card from the White House.

The UFC has not held an event in Washington DC since 2019; A UFC Fight Night Booking between heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho rose bush.
