The future of Jonathan David (24) remains in doubt, now that the striker's contract with Lille OSC expires in June. It was a surprise that David remained in northern France this summer when it was reported that the club were open to cashing in on him ahead of his final year.
And while Lille risk losing an important piece for free, they are rewarded on the pitch with David's decision to stay at the club for his final year. The striker has scored important goals in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, where he scored a match-winning penalty against Real Madrid.
David's time at Lille has not gone unnoticed and this latest swan song was an open audition for Europe's elite clubs, with Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal all interested in the soon-to-be free transfer. However, in an exclusive interview with The Athletic, David revealed that his dream would be to play for FC Barcelona.
David explained: “[Barcelona] was always the team I watched growing up. When you grow up and support a team, it's a dream to play for them.” It remains to be seen whether this dream will become a reality.
