Ruben Amorim ‘told Man United stars why managers after Sir Alex Ferguson failed’
Ruben Amorim has reportedly told Manchester United stars why his predecessors failed to match Sir Alex Ferguson's level of success as he attempts to turn around their fortunes.
Amorim took charge of his first training session as Man United's new head coach on Monday, with the 39-year-old the latest man tasked with leading the club to success.
He becomes the sixth permanent boss to follow Ferguson, after David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag, who each failed to win the Premier League title.
According to The Sun, Amorim told the Man United squad that previous bosses had lived in Ferguson's shadow.
Man United's legendary boss had led the club to thirteen Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League titles.
It is said that players are already impressed with Amorim, which has drawn comparisons to one of its predecessors.
“He told them that top managers have not repeated Sir Alex's success because they have lived in his shadow, rather than letting their team play with his ghost,” a source told The Sun.
'Even before the first session on Monday, the players were very impressed.
'After the sessions they are impressed by his energy, approach and self-confidence.
'There are definite Mourinho vibes in the way he speaks and his confidence, but the style is his own.
'The players think he is very approachable and that he will understand them. Some call him Mourinho 2.0.'
Amorim was officially announced as head coach of Man United on November 1, but completed his notice period at Sporting before officially taking over last week.
He did not have a full squad of first-team players at his first training session on Monday as many of his top stars were on international duty.
But the likes of Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro all took part in Monday's session.
Amorim had his players perform a series of exercises and also set up a practice match.
Man United's new head coach will take charge of his first match on Sunday when the Red Devils take on Ipswich at Portman Road.
He takes the lead while Man United is in thirteenth place in the Premier League with fifteen points from eleven games.
