Jordan Henderson left facing fresh transfer dilemma as Ajax make stance clear

Jordan Henderson will require Ajax that he is tearing up his contract if he wants to join as Monaco before the transfer deadline of Monday.

The former midfielder of Liverpool, 34, only moved to Amsterdam in January after a short period in Saudi Arabia with Al-Etifaq. He drew a deal that runs until 2026 with the Dutch giants to return to Europe and has since been made club captain.

However, it seems that Henderson could be on the move again. Monaco loves the idea of bringing him to France, but such a movement requires Ajax to make concessions.

As described by De Telegraaf, Monaco is not willing to pay compensation for the former English star, which means that Ajax would probably have to end his deal to make a move possible.

It is noted that Henderson, who would like to make the switch to Monaco, is negotiating with Ajax to try to guarantee an early release. But Monaco has already made it clear that they are going to other goals if they cannot sign Henderson with a free transfer.

Although Ajax is open to let Henderson go in the summer, they are currently contrary to the Dutch title and it is still to be seen whether they would punish his departure halfway through the season.

Monaco is now third in Ligue 1 and in the play-offs of the Champions League, where they are confronted with Paris Saint-Germain or Benfica for a place in the round of 16.

Henderson was saved only 12 months ago from a nightmare in Saudi Arabia by Ajax. It was a difficult campaign from 2023-24 for the Dutch giants, who ended the season fifth in the competition after he was stimulated by Henderson's leadership qualities.

Henderson has grown into a crucial figure both on and outside the field during his short time in the Dutch capital. And if the words of Ajax Technical Director Alex Kroes are something to enter into in November, the club could dig their heels and convince Henderson to see the season at least in Amsterdam.

“I am very happy with Jordan and Captain, both on and outside the field. We don't want to lose him, “Kroes said when he was asked about the future of the midfielder in the long term.

“We assume that he will help us to continue the further development that we are currently going through as a club and team.”
