Former world cup star Jorge Bolano died tragically at the age of 47.
It is reported that the ex-mid-fadder died of a heart attack after celebrating a family birthday in Cucuta, Colombia.
He was rushed to a nearby clinic, but doctors could not save his life.
Players and fans went to social media to pay tribute to Bolano after the news of his death.
The former Parma teammate Gianluigi Buffon of the Colombians said: “Jorge was an unforgettable friend and teammate, a constant in a dressing room of extraordinary champions.
“We played together and won in the golden years of a large Parma.
“On the field he fought without saving himself and, outside the field, I am happy to remember his kindness and humanity that made him an example for everyone.
“We will always carry you with us, rest in peace, my friend.”
Bolano started his gaming career at the Colombian side Atletico Junior in 1993 and spent six years in Atlantico before moving to Italy.
There he joined Buffon in playing for Parma and won the Italian cup during the 2001/02 season.
The midfielder enjoyed Leen Proverbs with Sampdoria and Lecce before he came to Modena in 2007.
He then returned to his home country in 2010 with Cucuta Deportivo, where he spent the last two years of his career before he retired.
Bolano also made 34 performances for the national team of Colombia and scored once.
He appeared for the nation at the 1998 World Cup in France.
