Jorginho joins Flamengo ahead of Club World Cup following Arsenal departure

Italy -midfielder Jorginho joined the Brazilian side flames before this month's club, after a mutual termination of his contract with Arsenal, both clubs said.

Jorginho, whose Arsenal -Deal would expire at the end of the month, became a member of Flamengo on a contract until July 2028.

The 33-year-old in Brazil born Italy International moved from Chelsea to North London in January 2023 and made 78 performances in all competitions for Arsenal.

Arsenal finished second in Liverpool champions in the Premier League in the recently closed season.

“We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Jorginho to end his contract with immediate effect to become a free agent,” Arsenal said in a statement late on Friday.

Jorginho had started his career on Italian side Hellas Verona before switching to Napoli, won the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and Club World Cup titles during his time in Chelsea.

Closed to Italy 57 times, he won the European Championship in 2020.

“The first assignment by Jorginho at Flamengo will be at the club of Club,” said the Brazilian Serie A Club.

Flamengo starts on June 16 in Philadelphia with their club World Cup campaign against Tunisian side Es Tunis.

The extensive 32-teams Club World Cup runs from 14 June to 13 July in the United States with $ 1 billion in prize money.
