Jorginho joins Flamengo following Arsenal depature

Jorginho has left Arsenal to join the Brazilian side Flamengo with a free transfer.

The midfielder would leave the Gunners after the expiry of his contract on 30 June, but the club “reached a mutual agreement to end his contract with immediate effect”.

Jorginho then completed a switch to Flamengo on time for their participation in the club World Cup, which starts on 14 June.

The Brazil, born in Brazil International, appeared 78 performances for Arsenal in all competitions after participating in Chelsea in January 2023, which helped them helped in three consecutive second place in the Premier League.

“Everyone at Arsenal Football Club wants to thank Jorgi for his contribution to the club, and we wish him and his family the very best for the future,” said a club statement.

Jorginho won the Champions League, Club World Cup, Europa League and Super Cup during his time at Chelsea, while he helped Italy to win the delayed Euro 2020.

The 33-year-old was named the UEFA Men's Player of the Year in 2021 and finished third in the Ballon d'Or of that year.

The midfielder could be confronted with the Club World Cup opposite the blues on 20 June.
