Zirkzee was replaced by Kobbie Mainoo in the first half, much to the delight of the Red Devils fans at Old Trafford.
Things are not going well for Manchester United at the moment and striker Joshua Zirkzee took full advantage of the fans' frustrations in the match against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday.
The Red Devils started the match in 14th place in the Premier League and after four defeats in five league games and three in a row in all competitions. Things continued in the same vein in the opening stages against the Magpies, who took a 2-0 lead within 19 minutes and could easily have taken the lead even further.
As Eddie Howe's team created (and missed) more and more chances, United coach Rubén Amorim made a tactical change. He replaced Zirkzee with Kobbie Mainoo, in an attempt to help his team gain a foothold in midfield.
A change that the vast majority of fans at Old Trafford seemed to fully agree with, and was received with great cheers all around the pitch.
An insult to Zirkzee or just a show of support for a local youngster who was one of United's best players last season? Either way, it continues the Dutch forward's rocky start to the Premier League.
Since joining The Red Devils from Bologna this summer for €42.5 million, Zirkee has made just ten appearances and scored just four times in 26 appearances, not the return he or the club were hoping for.
