Marcus Rashford is expected to leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window, but former teammate Juan Mata hopes that he will stay in place and will be successful under Ruben Amorim
Former Manchester United star Juan Mata believes that it would be a 'win-win' if Marcus Rashford remains in Old Trafford. Rashford, 27, is expected to leave United this summer after he was sent to Aston Villa for the second half of last season.
The International of England is not part of the plans of Ruben Amorim and has taken his number 10 shirt by new £ 62.5 million signing Matheus Cunha. Rashford did not return on Monday for the training for the season, such as the majority of United's team, because he has had extra free time to explore a move.
Barcelona are the favorites to sign him, but the asking price of £ 40 million from United has put a fork on the road. But Mata does not want to see his ex-teammate, who saw Rashford breaking through the United Academy, playing in the Camp Nou.
“As a fan of a man United and as a friend of Marcus, I wish he can succeed here because it is his club, his boys' club,” Mata told the Athletic. “I don't know what is going to happen, but if he stays and he can be really happy and enjoy, I think it will be a win-win situation for both the club and him.”
The Spaniard, currently playing for the West Sydney Wanderers from the Australian side, added: “I saw his first training (session) with us. I love him.
“As a child I called him 'The Wonderkid'. The way he played was fearless, you could feel that he could win a game himself at any time he played at his best.”
But the recent actions by Rashford suggest that his two decades-long associations with United have ended. The attacker no longer has 'Manchester United' in his BIOS on social media and would like to become a member of Barca.
Last month, Rashford was asked by the Spanish YouTube channel Xbuyer if he would play next to Barcelona Wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the future. “Yes, sure,” the 27-year-old replied. “Everyone in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully we will see.”

Rashford also suggested that he would be a skilled backup for Barca -talisman Robert Lewandowski, who will be 37 in August. “For me as I get older, the number 9 position becomes more comfortable, more natural,” added the United Wantaway.
“Small things, such as playing the goal, it becomes easier for me. You are always for the goal, so you are always dangerous.”
