Arsenal takes a 3-0 lead to Madrid while preparing for the second stage of their Champions League Quarte final with Holders Real Madrid
Jude Bellingham has warned that Real Madrid is so used to making comebacks that everyone thinks it is “on” nailed “that they will overcome arsenal. Bellingham says that the never-say-that-spirit in the dressing room is 'contagious' because of their remarkable history of large fightbacks.
Real Madrid, the 15 times European champions, are still large underdogs after the Swashbuckling 3-0 victory of Arsenal at the Emirates last week. The Spanish giants were completely finished and Arsenal could have gained more comfortably, but Real Madrid never believes they are defeated when it comes to the Champions League.
England Star Bellingham said: “I recently told someone. It is a strange environment. The last few days it is one of the worst results that we might imagine. For some reason everyone thinks it is nailed, we will come back.
“There is an expectation from all over the world that when we enter into such holes, we can come back, even if it is a very difficult and a very difficult one. I think it is probably not that often to be in England, but it also happened.
“It is only because the club has done it so often and that is what is so impressive about the size of this club. The expectation is clearly enormous.
“But it is a nice feeling. It means that there is a lot of confidence in the talent. It means that you are in a club that has made a lot of effort and it is contagious. That is what it represents and means to me.
“There is certainly a pressure that accompanies this. We want to deliver what everyone thinks we can come back. That is clearly the goal for us. There is a pressure in it. That's what it's all about.”
They are famous for their comebacks, but even Madrid never returned from losing a first leg with 3-0 in the knockout. But instead of being intimidated, Bellingham says that this will be extra motivation.
Bellingham said: “It's something you want to be part of, it's something you want to add to the history of this club. There is not much that you can do for Real Madrid in the Champions League that has not yet been done. Tomorrow is a chance for us to do something that has not been done for the first time and that is really important to us.”
Bellingham spoke eloquently and with really conviction about how much Real Madrid brings himself back to destroy the defeat of 3-0 first leg. Spanish newspaper Marca has even run a head of the front page “Remontada” – literally translated means put together again, but it is honest to say that they argue for a comeback and Bellingham says that the Buzz word has been in the dressing room.
Bellingham admitted that they were not good enough with the emirates – but that will only drift them to ensure that they are better in the return. He added: “There was probably not one aspect of our game that was above the standard that we expect from ourselves. We are not afraid to say something like that. It is very normal that when you lose a game, you look at the game honestly.
“We know that we can play much better, we know that we can do a lot of things much better. That is what we want to show tomorrow. It is one thing to lose, but it is something else not to learn. That is something that we have to learn.
“I think what makes us confident the quality we have, the history of the club, the fans who will pop up and give everything in the night, the aura of the Bernabeu and this Champions League -night, that is always something.”
