Julian Nagelsmann offers Marc Andre ter Stegen update in Germany’s No.1 battle

Barcelona star Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is assured of his World Cup place with the national team of Germany.

Ter Stegen is currently working back to full fitness after an ACL injury earlier this season and Barcelona is convinced that he could appear again before the campaign ends.

The No.1 struggle in the absence of Ter Stegen has hit some controversy with Inaki Pena that is now being replaced by Wojciech Szczesny after the latter's free arrival.

Pena could now continue with Barcelona open in the summer to expand the Szczesny deal to the 2025/26 campaign.

However, the futures of Pena and Szczesny are not expected to influence the starting place of Ter Stegen in Catalonia, with Hansi Flick counting on him as the first choice in the goal for next season.

Ter Stegen could be involved for Germany in the June UEFA Nations League Finals series, as Julian Nagelsmann's Side Secure qualification, and he will be the key to their urge to the FIFA World Cup 2026.

His controversial fight against Bayern Munich -legend Manuel Neuer as the starting bed holder for Germany has been an important story about the team for more than ten years.

Neuer's decision to retire last summer from the international service, and the subsequent injury of Ter Stegen, has created a vacuum for Nagelsmann.

Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nubel have treated the role since October, but Nagelsmann is in no doubt about the place of Ter Stegen in his plans.

“I have often stated that if Marc is fit and healthy, he is number 1 in my team. He deserves to play in a big tournament after all these years,” according to quotes from DW Sports.

“If he is not fit, the battle is open to all keepers.”

Germany is organizing Italy in Dortmund tomorrow in their Nations League Quarter Second Been after winning 2-1 in Milan last week.
