Julio Cesar Chavez called on his son to retire in 2021
There was nothing lucky about the victory of Anderson Silva over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
'The Spider' clearly surpassed him, and the only shock after eight boxing was the fact that the judges made a split decision, instead of a unanimous judgment in favor of the 46-year-old Brazilian fight icon.
Silva's victory worsened a bad night in the office for the Chavez family, such as earlier in the evening, the other son of the boxing legend, Omar Chavez, was defeated by Ramon Alvarez, the brother of Canelo Alvarez.
After the fight, the 107-6-2 Mexican called are both sons to call time on their respective boxing career.
“I prefer that they will retire if they will not prepare themselves correctly,” said Chavez Sr.
“They are not preparing in the best possible way to fight.”
What is the next step for Julio Cesar Chavez JR?
Chavez Jr. ignored his father's pension advice and received his career (kind of) on the right track.
Back-to-back decision wins on David Zegarra and former PuC star Uriah Hall have earned him a big fight.
Chavez Jr. Will fight Jake Paul on 28 June. Although a collision with the YouTuber boxer is far from trade magazines with Canelo Alvarez, it is a step in the right direction for the 54–6-1 Mexican.
A victory would set up a money-spinning rematch and potential opportunities in the Cruiserweight Division.
If Chavez loses JR, his famous father can call him again to stop boxing.
