Jurgen Klopp has called three football stars that he regrets that he did not sign during the Borussia Dortmund – before they all went bigger things.
The legendary former Liverpool boss won everything there was to win during an illustrious management career, which the Champions League won famous in 2019 before he ended the 30-year waiting time of the Reds for a Premier League title the season thereafter.
He also led Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles, so Bayern Munich grabbed the crown twice before the Bavarians started their era of dominance.
The core of his success was Man-Management and Recruitment, with Klopp that shape an abundance of world clothing that have become synonymous with the modern game.
Take people like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Robert Lewandowski and many, much more. All players who were barely the completed article when they started working with Klopp, but by the time they separated with Klopp, but were bona fide Megastars.
Klopp, however, did not always get his wish when it came to bringing in talent – a trifecta of now Felacedy players that he regrets that he missed in the Ruhr.
Now in his new busy role of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, Klopp said that Sadio Mane was the first star that he was unfortunately unable to sign Dortmund – a regret he would focus in his next club, of course.
“There are a few Dortmund fans in the crowd, so I have to apologize that I didn't bring Sadio Mane to Dortmund,” Klopp said during a fundraising gala in Cape Town.
'I could now say that I was young and naive – but I was no longer so young and not so naive. I noticed it when we brought him to Liverpool. I thought, “Oh my God, that's a lot of money for a man I could have had three years ago.”
Klopp then revealed that he missed the signing of the future Talisman of Tottenham Heung-Min, while he just stood up at Hamburger SV.
The Zuid -Korean went to Bundesliga -Rivalen Bayer Leverkusen before he made his big switch to the Premier League, where he has since scored 126 goals for Spurs.
“Son then played for Hamburg – and I didn't sign him,” he added. “I can't even remember why we didn't sign him.
“I saw him in the Premier League and just thought,” My God, you were so stupid! “
Klopp's third and last regret is a player who still has to follow Klopp to this day, after he has played a crucial role in inflicting several cases of Premier League -heart sake for Liverpool.
Now known as the midfield master of Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne could have been under Klopp's guardianship at Dortmund while he looked to rebuild his name after a fatal spell at Chelsea.
“Again at the Dortmund fans: We were very close to a deal with Kevin De Bruyne,” he said.
“Then he played us in the cup final with Wolfsburg. A double setback. '
De Bruyne set fire to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg before he earned a switch to Etihad, since he won six Premier League titles, a Champions League and a club of the World Cup under Klopp's long-term Pep Guardiola.
While Klopp will struggle to get the memories of the last day of despair, abusing two Premier League titles to Manchester City in 2019 and 2022, the German nevertheless left Liverpool as an icon after repairing the club's status as one of Europe's greatest.
After he came to Liverpool in 2015 in a time of stagnation, he brought the Reds to heights that were not seen in decades in his term of office of nine seasons, so that the Premier League crown was famous to Anfield.
Tears were dropped when he announced that he would leave the club at the end of the 2023/24 season.
But after building such a well -oiled machine, he left successor Arne Slot with an excellent team to inherit.
With a team built by Klopp at his disposal, Slot continued where the German gone and has led an amazing title costs in his debut season, in which the club is currently 16 points clearly at the top with nine games to play.
If Liverpool reclaims the Premier League title, they will evaluate the record of Manchester United of 20 Top-Flight Trophies.
