Samuel Mbangula registered late to give Juventus a slim benefit compared to PSV in their Champions League Knockout-Phase-Play-Off.
The Italian side, who ended 20th during the group stage, made a dominant start such as Nicolas Gonzalez, Kenan Yildiz and Paris St-Germain loaner Randal Kolo Muani all had opportunities.
Weston McKennie broke the impasse in the 34th minute with a stunning attack from the edge of the area after PSV had not made their lines.
Mbangula was introduced as a half-time replacement for Yildiz and almost had an immediate impact when his volley was released from the line by Ryan Flamingo.
Although I struggled to eliminate clear opportunities, the Dutch side was equated with only their second shot on goal when Ivan Perisic nested an attempt in the lower corner.
The first goal of Perisic's first Champions League since 2020 was allowed to stand after a long check by the video assistant referee after calling that Noah had used his hand in the structure for a long time.
With the game apparently on the way to a stalemate, Mbangula appeared to score the winner from just a few meters out.
It is the second time that the two clubs have met in this season's Champions League, where Juventus won 3-1 when they organized PSV in the group stage.
The second leg will take place in Philips Stadium on February 19.
