Juventus 2-2 Venezia: Stoppage-time Vlahovic penalty keeps hosts unbeaten

Dusan Vlahovic scored a penalty in the 95th minute as Juventus salvaged a 2-2 draw against struggling Venezia. He maintained his unbeaten record in Serie A this season, but drew for the tenth time in sixteen games.

After beating Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek, Thiago Motta's Bianconeri took the lead after 19 minutes, with unmarked Federico Gatti tapping in after a corner was fired towards the back post.

However, Venezia came roaring back and took the lead against the run of play. Mikael Egill Ellertsson headed in the equalizer just after the hour, before Jay Idzes nodded in Hans Nicolussi Caviglia's free-kick to stun the Allianz Stadium with seven minutes to go.

But Juventus suffered a huge fortune in stoppage time when the ball struck Antonio Candela's arm near Venezia, allowing Vlahovic to score from the spot.

The Bianconeri's tenth draw of the campaign – and their fourth in a row – leaves them sixth in Serie A with 28 points, nine points behind leaders Atalanta. Venezia is at the bottom with 10 points.

Data debrief: mixed feelings for Juventus

Juventus, along with Paris Saint-Germain, are one of only two teams still undefeated in Europe's top five this season.

However, they have only won six of their ten matches this season. In the era of three points for a win, only once have they achieved fewer wins in 16 games in a Serie A campaign (also six in 1998-99).

In 2024 they drew twenty times in Serie A, which is already a club record for a single calendar year. The last team to play 20 games in Serie A in one calendar year was Torino in 2017.
