Juventus has officially dismissed head coach Thiago -Motta less than a season in his term of office and quickly fired to put his replacement in line.
Motta, 42, was officially informed of his resignation by the club's hierarchy on Sunday after a nightmare of results and was replaced by Igor Tudor.
Tudor, whose last management role came in the Serie A -Rivalen Lazio, will take the lead for the rest of the season with Champions League qualification that is crucial to determine whether his deal is being extended. He will supervise his first training session on Monday.
Juventus collapsed from the Champions League this season and both the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana this season and recently suffered a 4-0 humiliation by title candidates Atalanta, their heaviest home defeat since 1967.
The last match of Motta at the helm turned out to be the 3-0 loss at the eighth placed Fiorentina, a result that the old lady left in the fifth, one point on drift of the fourth.
In the aftermath, Motta was reportedly told by director Cristiano Giuntoli that he 'ashamed' because he had chosen him for the track in an uncomfortable confrontation during lunch on Tuesday. This, La Gazzetta dello Sport Claim, was a factor behind his looting.
It is indeed thought that Giuntoli and CEO Maurizio Scanavino were not impressed by Motta's answers during the face-to-face meeting, which led to a change of heart after the coach was initially supported, despite the losses to Atalanta and Fiorentina.
A short club statement in which the decision was confirmed was: 'Juventus FC announces that Thiago Motta was relieved of men's first team coach.
'The club wants to thank Thiago Motta and all its staff for their professionalism and for the work they have carried out in recent months with passion and dedication. The club wishes them every success for the future.
“Juventus FC also announces that the first team of men is now being led by Igor Tudor, who will take the lead on his first training session tomorrow, Monday 24 March.”
Tudor spent a lot of his gaming career in Turin, won Serie A in 2002 and 2003 and acted as an assistant coach at the club under Andrea Pirlo. His first match will be against Genoa on March 29 after the conclusion of the international break.
Motta, who wrote a contract until 2027 last summer, only lost three league games at Juventus, but saw his side attract as many competitions as they won – 13. He leaves with the heavyweights 12 points behind the League leaders Inter Milan.
In the Champions League, they finished 20th of 36 teams in the competition phase, after they had won only three of their eight games, and then packaging in the play-off round was sent after a Kastendien 4-3 aggregated defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Motta was previously impressed as the head coach at Bologna, and sent them to a ninth placed finish in 2022-23 before the Champions League qualification was sealed the next campaign, the first time the club had reached the performance in six decades.
