Former leader of Manchester United, Roy Keane, accused his old team of weak and soft after a Howler of Reserve goalkeeper Altay Bayindir Arsenal presented an opening weekend in Old Trafford in the Premier League.
BAYINDIR – The preference for number one Andre Onana who was not even in the team – fluttered in a 15th minute angle to enable Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori to nod the ball from a garden on the Stretford -end. United was then the better team, but could not make it right.
Then, United Manager Ruben Amorim Defender Bayindir and insisted that the club was not looking for a new keeper in the last two weeks of the transfer window.
But Keane did not bump into the Sky Studio and said: 'If you are the goalkeeper, just take control of the six-year box.
'Keepers and defenders always complain. “Oh people are on my face.”
“Well, you get into their face. The goalkeeper has taken over control over that six-year box. Focus on the ball. Be aggressive.
“I often said it for a keeper. Come with violence, come and be aggressive. That is your area. Take control of it.
Arsenal is very good at it. But man United? Weak and soft. '
Bayindir made a similar error as United lost in Tottenham in the Carabao Cup last season.
But Amorim defended the 27-year-old Turk and said: 'That was without VAR. With VAR it is a mistake.
'In the next game in Arsenal Bayindir was incredible. So I consider everything.
“I didn't drop Onana from the team. Boys such as Tom Heaton and Bayindir, they did well during the preseason.
“I'm happy with the three keepers.”
In terms of the goal, Amorim seemed to suggest that keepers are now in an impossible position when they are put under pressure from opponents with set pieces.
“I think nowadays it is allowed to do many things in the corners, so we have to do the same,” said the United Manager.
'But when you touch the keeper that way, he must use his hands to catch the ball, not to push players. Or he chooses to push players and let the ball pass.
“But again, it's the rules. If it is allowed, we must do the same. '
Arsenal left Manchester with three points, even though they were not played well according to their standards. Mikel Arteta accepted but this was aimed at the resilience of his players.
“I think we did two things very well, one to take the set piece and then respond to errors,” said the Arsenal manager.
'The way each player responded gives us the opportunity to win the game. If not, it is impossible.
'And that is about how we compete and how much we want to do that.
'This gives us momentum and trust, two very important things. Because we know that when we know our standards in certain aspects that they were not today, we can still get away and find a way to win the game.
“And the team has to find that resilience in different contexts for ten months.”
