Keane reveals which player still annoys him years after they last shared a pitch

Roy Keane has ruled one of the most memorable rivalry of the Premier League by admitting that Alan Shearer still annoys him for almost 20 years after she last shared a throw.

The former captain of Manchester United, now 53, was sent away during a chaotic 4-3 defeat in Newcastle in 2001 after collision with Shearer during the interruption time. Keane was pushed by the striker of the Magpies, swung the ball to his head and then tried to swing a blow and got to see a red card.

United had fought back from 3-1 that day, only for an 82nd minute Wes Brown's own goal to give the home team the victory.

Keane was back in St James' Park on Sunday in his role as Sky Sports Pundit.

Speaking for the last meeting between the two parties, he could not resist taking a wipe with a few well -known names.

He said: “People annoy me. I think I was fined two weeks. At the end I am still irritated on WES for that own goal.

“People always annoyed me. In particular. And he still annoys me. '

Although he did not mention Shearer by name, the pointed remark, combined with a knowing grin, left little doubt. The infamous bust-up of the couple remains one of the most iconic flash points of the Premier League.

Thinking about the incident in later years, Keane said: 'I lost my patience, we lost 4-3 in the last minute.

'If you are sent, the worst is, I have pushed it. If you are sent away, you might as well hit it because you get the same punishment.

'You can just as well be hung on a sheep like a lamb. That's what I thought afterwards. It was just a push. It was ridiculous. '

Although that fiery collision lives in memory for a long time, the two fierce competitors shared a pitch for the last time for the last time, for the last time, in August 2005, when Manchester United Newcastle beat 2-0 in St James' Park.

Keane then played twice for United before moving to Celtic later that year. He retired in June 2006 on medical advice. Shearer also mentioned time on his career at the end of the 2005-06 season.
