Kelvin Gastelum had Israel Adesanya all but beaten before making fight-costing mistake

Kelvin Gastelum came seconds from becoming the UFC -Interim -Middenweight champion when he and Israel Adesanya fought in one of the greatest fights ever.

The coming Saturday, Kelvin Gastelum will return to the UFC Octagon when he takes on the middleweight Prospect Joe Pyfer.

Gastelum caused the last time-out of any controversy when he had taken it against Daniel Rodriguez in Saudi Arabia as only a Dew days for roads, he claimed that he would not make the weight, resulting in a last-minute change.

UFC boss Dana White admitted that he was extremely disappointed about the antics of Gastelum, leaving his future in the promotion in a precarious position.

Gastelum has been in the UFC for more than 12 years now and has hit a number of incredible fights, with the most memorable is his interim title fight against Israel Adesanya in 2019.

After Robert Whittaker had built up an injury and brought him out of operation for a longer period, the UFC made an interim -midweight title fight between Gastelum and the Soaring Adesanya on UFC 236.

Gastelum stood as 'The Last Stylebender's' most difficult test so far, and from the start he showed that it would not be a easy fight for the Nigerian.

In the first half of the first round the American Adesanya dropped and wanted to spoil the party. Gastelum's forward pressure took place in round two, but Adesanya worked his way back in the fight and scored his own knockdown.

After a back and forth round three, Adesanya's face began to look unrecognizable, filled with swelling. Then, in round four, after a clear main kick, Gastelum had the striking feeling pain and on the rear.

Adesanya was moments away from closing when Gastelum continued to cast it on him, but when bizarre shot for a branchedown with Adesanya's back against the cage, making a terrible mistake.

After an incredible four rounds of action, prior to the final round, Adesanya said: “I am willing to die,” moments before Marc Goddard signaled the beginning of the round. He went down four times in the last round in the final round, which shows that his Takedown attempt was a mistakes of fighting costs.

The Co-Main event of the UFC 236 is generally considered one of the greatest fighting ever, and Marc Goddard even admitted that the fight 'cried' him because of how incredible it was.

Fortunately and rightly so, the fight was recorded earlier this year in the UFC Hall of Fame, where the two in the history books were credited for putting their lives that night.

Gastelum will be hopeful that he will no longer be involved in such a war during the rest of his UFC career, but this weekend he will have to resist Pyfer's frightening Ko strength.
