Kevin De Bruyne says his main focus is getting back to his best, rather than talking about a new deal with Manchester City.
The Belgian maestro, 33, is out of contract at the end of the season and has been tipped to leave the Premier League champions. However, his future has not yet been decided and he could still apply for an extension to stay in Manchester.
De Bruyne has missed several games this season due to a hamstring problem but has started City's last two games, both of which they have won. And he was more interested in discussing his form than contract talks when quizzed about his future.
When asked by Sky Sports about the negotiations after City's thumping 4-1 win over West Ham, De Bruyne replied: “I don't care.
“I'm just trying to get back to my level. I feel like I'm getting better every week. My fitness level is improving and I can now run for 90 minutes.
“It's been an awkward few months because of the injury, but I'm getting better and performing better, so that's it.”
De Bruyne pulled the strings for City in a match in which two of City's other big hitters, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, both scored, with the former bagging a brace.
City have now won back-to-back games after an alarming run of form and goals for Haaland and Foden, plus another match for De Bruyne. This could be an indication that some of City's most influential players are back on track.
De Bruyne has consistently excelled for City during his nine years at the club, but speculation over his future is rife amid rumors of interest from the United States.
The midfielder's latest comments on his future come just 24 hours after Pep Guardiola said talks over a contract extension with De Bruyne were 'not his business'. “He has had problems in the last year and a half,” the Catalan coach said.
“But if he is consistent and fit and can play regularly, I have said many times that he is a very important player for us. A decisive player. But it will happen for the club and how he will perform until the end of the season , the age he is and much more, I think the club should think about it.”
