Report in Germany: Bayern Munich move ahead of Real Madrid in race for Wirtz
Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz will have a choice of offers next summer if he decides to leave the BayArena, but the two teams most closely linked to the 21-year-old are Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. The Bavarian side feels in pole position.
Real Madrid are interested in signing Wirtz next summer to help manage their midfield operations, and view him as Luka Modric's long-term successor. They may also be able to count on the added factor of Xabi Alonso if he does indeed make a move to Madrid next summer, while Leverkusen would prefer Wirtz leave the Bundesliga if he does.
However, Bayern think they have stolen a march on Los Blancos. They have already had several conversations with his father and with Wirtz, hoping to explain their project to the German star. They are desperate to take on Real Madrid, assuming they get Alphonso Davies under their feet, and feel Los Blancos have not made much progress.
Although they are not sure how much the European champions will spend, Bayern are willing to spend €100 million on Wirtz. BILD, quoted by Sport, says Jamal Musiala's future extension could also be crucial as the pair share a good relationship.
