Kimmich breaks silence on Bayern future ahead of his contract expiring

Joshua Kimmich has opened himself in his future of Bayern Munich while going into the last few months of his contract.

Kimmich, 30, will currently become a free agent in the summer. Bayern offered him an extension, but was impressed by his response.

Various clubs would have shown interest in Kimmich, including Arsenal, Liverpool and PSG, but there is also a chance that he will stay with the German giants.

Kimmich has been an integral member of Bayern's side since he came to the RB Leipzig club in 2015, in which the midfielder made more than 400 performances and won 20 trophies, including eight Bundesliga titles.

The 30-year-old, who can also fill it back immediately, won 97 caps for Germany in the same way and was appointed as their captain in the aftermath of Euro 2024.

Speculation is all about what happens afterwards with Kimmich and, after Bayern's 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the first stage of their Last-16-Confess of the Champions League, he gave an update.

“My plan was to make my decision for the international break,” he said after playing the full 90 minutes of the collision.

“The club didn't want that, which is legitimate. There will be a decision soon. It will certainly be for the international break at the last minute. '

Kimmich continued: 'Other clubs also play a role in my decision about the future. I will not mention which clubs, but there will be a decision soon. '

Kimmich's departure would be a huge blow to Vincent Kompany, since the 30-year-old this season had played every minute before the club until he had sustained an injury to Frankfurt last month.

However, he returned quickly and shone in the Bonnissen van Leverkusen last night – a result that allowed Bayern to place one foot in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Kimmich's comments about when he will make a decision – with the international break that starts on March 17 – comes after the club reportedly set him a deadline to sign a new contract.

Bayern offers from a new deal were initially withdrawn after the player's hesitant answer, something that was confirmed on Wednesday by CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.

The club would have offered Kimmich an extension that would have seen its existing salary the same.

The player was reportedly prepared to accept that part of the deal, but his demands on a signing bonus were not to the taste of the club.

According to Bild, Bayern will not increase their previous offer and only willing to offer the original deal again on one condition.

Allegedly, Kimmich had to approach Bayern -bosses before the Champions League -similar game against Leverkusen and explain his dedication to his current club, but that clearly did not happen.

Nevertheless, speculation about his future did not derail what turns out to be an impressive season in front of Kompany.

Bayern is currently eight points free from Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga while they want to regain the title.

It comes after the side of Xabi Alonso won the competition last year, which Bayern's series of Triumphing ended in 11 consecutive seasons between 2012 and 2023.
