Kimmich hints Bayern contract renewal is close

Joshua Kimmich says he will extend his Bayern Munich contract “in the coming days” after their Champions League triumph on Tuesday.

Bayern defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in the second stage of their Champions League last 16 draw on Tuesday, sail in the quarterfinals thanks to a 5-0 total victory.

Kimmich's current contract, which he signed in August 2021, will end at the end of this season.

The German has made 429 performances in all competitions for Bayern since he came to RB Leipzig in 2015, scored 43 goals and registered 114 assists at that time.

Bayern sports director Max Eberl hinted last month that Kimmich close to expanding his stay in the club, with the 30-year-old now confirmed how close it is.

“[A new deal] Will certainly come in the coming days, “he said reporters.

“It has been difficult in recent days because we have had so many games.”

Kimmich has played the most passes (1,103) and this season had the most touches (1,324) of each player in the Champions League.

Bayern has already renewed the contracts of Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala last month, with Kimmich Long thought as the next on that list.

The captain of Germany was associated with a move to Barcelona and Arsenal if he left Bayern when his contract ends at the end of the season.
