The beloved former former former Liverpool manager said that there are more “serious things in the world than football” after the car was plowed at the end of a parade in supporters to celebrate the Triumph's Premier League title of the club.
A 53-year-old man from the Liverpool area was held by the police on suspicion of attempted murder and drugs used after 65 people were injured in Monday's shocking scenes.
Klopp, who left the English giants a year ago, was present for the parade.
It was the first chance that the club and supporters had to celebrate a triumph of a title for 35 years when the 2019/20 League won by Klopp's side came during a period of limitations at public meetings due to COVID-19.
“The mood was incredible and from one second to another, everything changed because we then learned again that there are more serious things in the world than football,” Klopp said when he was awarded a prize by the League managers' Association.
“Thoughts and prayers certainly go to the, as far as I know now, to the wounded people, but of course also to the families.
“It should have been one of the biggest days in the history of the city after a long, long time, because we didn't have the chance to do that the last time.”
Liverpool -Baas Arne Slot withdrew from the same event, where he would pick up a manager of the year award, out of respect for the victims.
In the shock that followed the incident, even the brightest rivals of Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton and Manchester City, were to the clubs to offer their support to the Premier League champions and their fans.
“Football is and should always have been built on rivalry, but it is also a great source of comrading, especially like this,” said Slot in a statement.
“I also want to pay tribute to the emergency services and other authorities in Liverpool who took action as soon as the incident took place.
“Together with the supporters and bystanders who helped each other in an hour of need, I think that everyone involved in the aftermath deserves the gratitude of all of us.”
In a press conference, the police said 11 of the injured in a stable state in the hospital on Tuesday.
