Kompany dismisses fixture congestion concerns ahead of Bayern-Leverkusen clash

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich's busy schedule may not have an impact on their performance in the collision of Saturday with Champions Bayer Leverkusen.

According to Vincent Kompany, who does not want any apologies for the match with the Xabi Alonso match.

Bayern defeated Celtic 2-1 in Glasgow on Wednesday in the first stage of their Champions League play-off for a place in the round of 16.

The second stage on Tuesday is only three days after their match at Leverkusen.

But Kompany does not think that the congestion of the fixture will influence his team.

“That should not play a role, but it could play a role,” Kompany told reporters.

“We are used to that, we are mentally there.

“We have the team for that, we have almost no injuries at the moment. That is why we will not say that the game is not coming at the right time.”

“Hopefully nothing will change in the team compared to the last game. The injured players are not far from return to training. We first expect João Palhinha back, then Alphonso Davies, and eventually Daniel Peretz. “… pic.twitter.com/WV9z3erpat

Bayern is eight points free from the second liverkusen placed, and the victory would open an 11-point gap with 12 league games.

Leverkusen will be somewhat fresher because he did not need Champions League play-off after automatically qualifying for the last 16.

“The game is interesting for many people. You have to remember that they have only lost once in the competition in the last 18 months. That shows how well they work. We want to be one of the teams who win,” said Kompany.

“You never know exactly 100% what you can expect against Leverkusen. We know that the intensity and quality will be high.

“Our goal is to win this game and if it works, it will be a good weekend.”

Alonso is the first Bundesliga coach who is unbeaten in his first five competitive matches against Bayern (W3, D2). The Spaniard has the best point per game average in the competition history of every non-bayern coach (2.23).

However, Kompany currently has the highest points per game on average in the history of Bundesliga (2.57).
