Vincent Kompany praised Bayern Munich's reaction to the setback in the Champions League after beating Freiburg on Saturday in the Bundesliga.
Bayern fought for a 2-1 victory over Freiburg, whose goal from Matthias Ginter in the second half turned out to be only a comfort when the Kompany team held up.
Harry Kane opened the score for the German giants before Kim Min-Jae added a second shortly after the break.
It turned out to be a much needed reaction to a 3-0 win from Feyenoord in Europe, so Kompany praised the efforts of his team.
“I knew that this competition would not be easy, so what happened here today was not strange,” Kompany said at a press conference. “We knew we should fight.”
“Over the whole it was a tough week with three games for us. We came here with the right mentality. Maybe it wasn't our best match, but it was a good victory because this team from Freiburg at home is very difficult to beat.
“We cannot change the story in Rotterdam, but we could influence the story today and that was our only focus. We have to take our steps. Without such moments there is no success or titles.”

Due to the victory, Bayern has six points ahead of champion Bayer Leverkusen in second place, since Kane scored seventeen goals this season in the same number of competition matches.
However, Joshua Kimmich was not only impressed by Kane's finish, but also praised his overall work pace for the team.
“When I see what kind of game Harry played, he, after he had had a few problems in recent weeks, he was in our box and defended everything,” Kimmich told Sky Germany.

Kompany repeated a similar sentiment as a kimmich, where Kane at the top of moisture in a thankless task for the visitors.
