Kompany: Neuer to return in goal for Bayern against Monchengladbach

Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany confirmed that Manuel Neuer will be back in goal in their return to the Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Kompany also revealed that Daniel Peretz, who replaced Neuer during his injury absence, would be missing after suffering an ankle problem in training.

Neuer is sidelined with a broken rib after colliding with Jeremy Frimpong during Bayern's 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal last month.

The challenge also saw him earn his first red card of his career, with the subsequent injury causing the Germany international to miss four games in all competitions.

But ahead of this Saturday's clash with Mönchengladbach, Kompany confirmed Neuer would return to the starting line-up to face Gerardo Seoane's side.

“It is fortunate that Manuel is back with us and unlucky that Daniel will be absent for a number of weeks,” said Kompany. 'We don't know exactly for how long.

“Hopefully Daniel will be back at the end of this month or early next month.”

Bayern returns after the three-week winter break with a four-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga, while Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen is four points behind the leaders.

But Kompany's team face a tough test at Borussia-Park, a ground where they have struggled in recent seasons.

Mönchengladbach have won five of their last nine Bundesliga home games against Bayern (D1 L3).

Since the start of the 2015/2016 season, no other team has recorded as many home wins against Bayern in the top flight as Mönchengladbach.

Kompany has also been dealt a blow ahead of Saturday's encounter, with Jamal Musiala expected to miss the match due to illness.

Musiala has been involved in 20 goals in 22 games in all competitions this season, already equaling the total he scored in the entire 2023/2024 season.

However, against no other club has Musiala played as many games in all competitions without scoring a goal as against Mönchengladbach (six).

“I've said it before: Jamal cannot be replaced one-for-one,” Kompany said. “But we won't change anything about what we have planned for this match on Saturday.

“We go into the game to win it. But Jamal will be back very soon.

“It is normal that not all players are always available, so we have to solve it differently. And we did that that season.”
