Liverpool -defender Ibrahima Konate describes the feeling of winning Premier League title after celebrations in Anfield yesterday with fans in the stadium
Ibrahima Konate was in the main standard in Anfield when the chaos had ended and looked out at an empty stadium while he fought against tears of joy. The only noise came about the parties that continued outside when the Liverpool defender enjoyed the peace after the pandemonium.
The center-back of France sat with his feet up while he thought he thought about what he had just achieved with the Reds by winning the Premier League title after he decided to go and take everything.
“After the game I walked into the stadium and was just in the stands to feel like a fan and I have no words to describe what I felt,” he said. “I said to my brother:” I want to see what it's like to be in the stands when I look at a game “and I tried to behave like a fan, but the stadium was empty and I just wanted to enjoy the moment alone.
“We won it with 60.00 fans and ourselves on the field. I just wanted to feel something different and I am very happy now. I was almost crying. It is crazy, incredible and we really have to enjoy it now.”
Liverpool enjoyed it last night and they will enjoy it for weeks. The players party on Anfield until the early hours, while the celebrations continued all night.
Fans were still torches to light and sang songs outside the stadium around midnight, hours after they witnessed their team that Tottenham had drunk to secure their 20th league title. In 2020, COVID-19 restrictions did not stop thousands of flowing to Anfield to celebrate, but they still had to be checked.
Many will have lost all control yesterday. It will also only be the start of the parties. On 25 May they will get the trophy in their hands after their home collision with Crystal Palace. Liverpool fans did not see the silverware personally when they won it in 2020, because the presentation was a TV spectacle without supporters.
Then there will be a parade the day after the city. Jurgen Klopp is that weekend in the city, but there is no confirmation if he will be with the game or parade.
“To be honest, I don't realize yet, but we have to enjoy it,” Konate, who came to Liverpool in 2021. “I think the last day of the season will be more special because we will lift the trophy. But it is great after four seasons that I finally did it, and I am very happy.
“The first thing is that we are in the best competition in the world and we know how difficult it is to win the Premier League every season. Since I was young, I have watched this competition every week, every game, and now to win it is crazy. I am the first French player from Liverpool to lift it. Incredibly.”
Konate and Co are now participating in a list of Liverpool legends to win the most coveted prize for English football. He added: “It is the most important thing for a player, because when you retire, this is the only thing you really remember, you still have it between your hands.
“Especially to win the Premier League – what a trophy. For some people in the world to win the Premier League is better than winning the Champions League.
“We have done it incredibly and we just have to be proud. Do what we can do. We don't look at other teams, we just have to write our story, that's it.”
