Kyle Walker takes England legend’s old shirt number after completing ‘incredible’ AC Milan loan transfer

Kyle Walker has chosen the number 32 shirt at AC Milan as a tribute to David Beckham.

The English wing defender trained with his new teammates on Saturday after he had brought in a transfer from Manchester City.

He is the fourth Englishman at the Rossoneri, alongside striker Tammy Abraham, defender Fikayo Tomori and midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The six-time Premier League champion will wear the same song on his back as Becks, who scored twice in 33 times for the club in the 2009/2010 season when he was lent to La Galaxy.

Walker, 34, said after sealing his new adventure in Milan: “I chose number 32 for David Beckham.

“Tammy said I had to come. He helped me make a decision.

“The Milanese fans here are incredible. When you hear them sing, it will be emotional.”

Abraham, 27, has been playing for Milan since the start of the season and is lent to the club by Roma.

Milan – eighth in the Serie A and sixth in the Champions League – will face Parma in the iconic San Siro on Sunday.

Walker, who played 93 times for England, is not expected to play because he has to fill in the details of the work permit, but could appear against Inter next weekend in the Milan derby.

The wing defender played fifteen times this season in the Premier League for City.

When he sealed his departure, he said emotionally: “Manchester City … where should I start? In 2017 signs for this incredible club was a dream come true.

“Seven years later, winning seventeen trophies, including the Champions League and the famous Treble, was something I could only have dreamed of as a child.

“To play with so many talented players, I have been able to become the best version of myself, and I am really grateful for the chance I got at Etihad.

“A huge thanks to so many people, the technical staff, the equipment men and all the back room staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes. You make fun every day and offer us the platform to perform at our best.

“To my teammates: from the moment I walked through the door, I felt at home. Thank you for the great memories and for all the success we have shared together. You are friends, but also family for life.

“To Pep Guardiola: Thank you for believing in me and worked so hard to bring me here in 2017.

“Together we celebrated seventeen trophies and your guidance helped me to form the player that I am now. I will be eternally grateful.

“To Annie and my whole family who have been there and supported me on this trip, thanks.

“Finally, to the fans: Thank you for embracing me from day one as one of you. Your relentless support, week in, week out, at home and out, will never be forgotten. I wish you all good luck in the Future thanks.
