Real Madrid has reportedly rejected a movement to sign Kyle Walker in the transfer window of January, where the La Liga side is still planning to sign Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool instead on a free transfer.
Walker came on loan this week at AC Milan, after he told Manchester City -Baas Pep Guardiola that he wanted a new challenge, after only nine times started with the 21 Premier League matches of City.
The 34-year-old told Guardiola that he wanted to experience a new competition in another country and Madrid could have been an option after he had offered the Spanish giants on loan.
According to Marca, however, Madrid chose Walker – despite losing the first choice option Dani Carvajal for the season.
The young defender Raul Asencio is playing this season as an improvised right back in Carvajal, where Madrid still hopes to lure Alexander-Arnold after he has rejected the chance to sign Walker.
Liverpool will be disappointed that Madrid did not choose Walker after he had already rejected an £ 20 million bid from the men of Carlo Ancelotti.
The report says that Madrid's main reason to sign the chance to sign Walker was to ensure that they stayed on schedule to bring in Alexander-Arnold, who no longer has a contract at the end of the season.
The club knows that they can sign the 26-year-old for a free transfer when they wait until the summer, with Liverpool also in danger that Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk the loss contract with the trio.
Alexander-Arnold was taken under fire this year after a few sub-par displays, in which some accused him of getting his eye from the ball in the midst of transfer speculation, but his manager Arne Slot has insisted that he is still dedicated.
The Dutchman said earlier this year: “I think everyone saw how great a first half of the season he had, how much he is here, how much he wants to win here.
“I see him on the training field, working every day. He is fully committed to us and he will play on Sunday.”
