Kylian Mbappé (25) has claimed in an interview with Canal+ that he would have extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain if it had helped his younger brother Ethan Mbappé (17).
It's easy to forget that PSG lost not one but two Mbappés last summer. The Mbappé brothers both left the club at the end of their contracts, Kylian Mbappé went to Real Madrid, while Ethan Mbappé joined Lille OSC.
It is widely accepted that Ethan Mbappe was a collateral victim of PSG's feud with Kylian Mbappe. The younger brother had broken into Les Parisien's academy and was in talks about a contract extension with the club.
However, when news broke that Kylian Mbappé would not be leaving the club at the end of his contract, Ethan Mbappé's contract extension was said to be no longer on the cards. As Kylian Mbappé explained to Canal+: “This has affected me the most.”
“He (Ethan), he didn't ask for anything. His Real Madrid was PSG. What Real meant to me, his childhood dream, was PSG,” continued Kylian Mbappé. “At one point I even said to him, 'If that's what you want, I'll extend it. [my contract] and you can stay, we'll stay here.' I would have given up my dream of Madrid and stayed for him.”
But as he explains, “Ethan told me… 'I don't want to stay here. What they did to you, what they did to me, it's not normal.” If he had said to me: 'Kylian, this is what I want.' I would have given up my dream of Madrid and stayed for him.”
