When Kylian Mbappé (26) left Paris Saint-Germain to join Real Madrid last summer, he made a significant financial sacrifice, L'équipe unveiled.
Mbappé currently earns € 32 million a year with Los Blancos after signing a five -year -old deal in the summer, while the Spanish media have estimated its registration costs at around € 100 million, but that faded in comparison with the € 250 million a year that he would have earned his stay in PSG.
“Thank you for making efforts to get here,” said President Florentino Perez on arrival of Mbappé in the Bernabeu, perhaps a reference to the financial sacrifice that he made to become a member of the club. “In Madrid, Mbappé earns a little less money, but he will win more titles,” an employee of the League side told L'équipe. Real Madrid did not want to bring the Frenchman within a salary that is considerably larger than the rest of the team, for fear of the potential effect in the dressing room.
However, there were sacrifices on both sides. At Real Madrid, image rights are split 50/50 between the player and the club, but not with the leader of France. Real Madrid has made an exception for Mbappé, which owns 80% of his image rights. It is an agreement that the AS Monaco Academy Product Pocket Millions could see. The negotiations to secure that deal were – sometimes – “lumpy” and “tense”, according to the L'équipe report.
