A club of co-ownership of French captain Kylian Mbappe has been banned to the French third layer.
It comes less than a year after Mbappe has purchased a majority stake in Stade Malherbe Caen through his investment fund, Coalition Capital.
On Friday evening, Caen fell 3-0 for Martigues, making their relegation to the Semi-Pro National 1 Third-Tier official.
It is the first time that the Normandy side has been from the top two professional competitions of France since 1984.
Their relegation was confirmed with three more games that were left to play, and only a few days after Mbappe had lost weight during the 2-1 victory of Arsenal in the Bernabeu in the quarter-finals second stage of the Champions League.
With the worst defensive record in the division, Caen won only five times the entire season and went down.
And the world's youngest active player-owner Mbappe, 26, was partly blamed by some of the fans.
A banner was evident on full -time by the Ultras with the text: “Management, players: all guilty, completely out.”
Another read: “Malherbe is us, the s *** are you”, referring to the full name of the team, Stade Malherbe Caen.
Various banners hit the Realmadrid star before and after the new year.

One said, “Mbappe, SMC is not your toys” and another said “before he wanted to shine internationally, respect the local figures.”
In February, Mbappe finally found time in his busy schedule to visit the club's training field after scoring a hat trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.
The World Cup winner invested around € 15 million through his investment fund to acquire 80 percent of the club's capital and to pay part of the club's debt.
The remaining 20 percent is in the hands of Pierre Antoine Capton, current president of the club's supervisory board.
But Caen has passed a horror transfer window before hiring and firing three different managers.
Nicolas Seube started the season as a Gaffer before he was fired early.
Bruno Baltazar lost all seven games that he took the lead, while Michel der Zakarian did not rescue the club from the inevitable fate.
SM Caen has played in Ligue 2 since they were relegated from the top flight in 2019.
Mbappe actually has a personal history with the club.
Ouest France has detailed detailed how the superstar could have signed for them at the age of 11.
The club's youth recruitment team, led by Laurent Glaize, kept the attacker for three years.
Mbappe will now serve a ban from one match after he was sent last weekend for a dropout on Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco.
The referee's report stated that Mbappe was sent for violent behavior, resulting in a punishment between one to three games.
Due to a ban of three games, Mbappe would have missed the final of Copa del Rey on 26 April against their El Clasico rivals.
But a committee decided the most mild punishment of a ban on one match, which was helped by the referee's report that Mbappe “disputed the ball”.
