In recent years, a number of Real Madrid iconen have left the club, with the newest veteran -midfielder Luka Modric. Both he and Cristiano Ronaldo will be available as free agents in the summer, and both can be set for a shock recovery to the Spanish capital.
But it would not be Real Madrid that they would do with, closed with that road for the rest of their play career. But rather, Rayo Vallecano could welcome both Ronaldo and Modric with open arms.
Rayo has a talent for signing iconic players, with radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez among those who have signed in recent years. And as President Raul told Martin Presa to Onda Cero (via Ed), the door is open to Ronaldo of Modric to participate in the team of Inigo Perez.
“Falcao wanted to live in Madrid and came; players like Modric or Cristiano know that if they want to play for Rayo, they will live in Madrid, but they cannot earn what they have earned.”
A move to Rayo can be an attraction for both players, since they will play in the UEFA Conference League next season. Neither of them has won the competition since it was founded a few years ago, so there could be a desire to finish that before their gaming career comes to an end.
It is very likely that Ronaldo or Modric will consider coming to Rayo this summer, but the option is there. It will be very interesting to see where both players end up, with the options that now want to be the MLS or Saudi Arabia – although Europe is not completely excluded.
