La Liga confirm Barcelona are back within salary limit – conflicting reports on Dani Olmo registration

Barcelona have stayed within the salary cap for the first time since before the pandemic, after accrediting the sale of VIP seats for the next 20 years at the Camp Nou at a cost of around €110 million. According to one report, they have also verbally agreed on the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.

However, conflicting information is reported. One thing all reports seem to agree on is that Barcelona sent an information email just before 11pm CEST on Friday evening informing both La Liga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) of their financial situation. La Liga has accredited the first €60 million portion of that sale and the club is now back within their salary cap, according to multiple reports.

Where the matter is less clear concerns Olmo and Victor's registrations, which was ultimately the purpose of the deal. Marca reports that despite that note, there has been no change in the registration situation, while Sport says La Liga has asked RFEF's lawyers to investigate the matter.

All sources agree that the RFEF has not received a request from La Liga to register Olmo and Victor, but RAC1 reports that Barcelona have been verbally confirmed by La Liga that they will register both players. They say Barcelona are waiting for La Liga to do this and could see movement on Saturday, with Barcelona directors leaving the club offices shortly after midnight. MD filed a report about half an hour later, specifically denying any verbal agreement between La Liga and Barcelona over registrations.

Their information is that President Joan Laporta could speak to the media next Sunday or Tuesday in Saudi Arabia before the Spanish Super Cup to explain the situation. Without any progress with the registrations, Barcelona, as they say, plans to take the matter to court next week or to the Ministry of Sports.

The veritable series of reports circulating late Friday evening only seem to cloud the reality of the situation, with the certainty appearing to rest solely on their salary cap situation. Be that as it may, the matter appears to be far from over. If Barcelona can sign Olmo and Victor, La Liga will likely face significant backlash from the other clubs. Barcelona are working on possible solutions if that is not the case, but Laporta will have to deal with his own reaction at the club if that is the case.
