La Liga Round Up: Atletico Madrid revive title push as Rayo Vallecano slip again

The La Liga promotion of Saturday contained another important turn in the exciting title race when Atletico Madrid was a 3-0 win in Valencia.

Every step in the title race is carefully managed by Diego Simeone and Co., but they have sealed an important lead this weekend.

Rayo Vallecano saw their urge to European qualification through the defeat at home to Villarreal when Espanyol left it late to win at Alaves.

Let's see how Saturday matches unfolded …

Alaves 0-1 Espanyol

Espanyol struck the most important blow in a fight between two out of form in the Basque Country.

The hosts suffered a late loss to make the five LA Liga matches without a victory, because Espanyol dropped their first way from 2024/25.

Early chances were on a premium and Alaves were denied a fine after the restart.

However, the only chance that is late landed for Espanyol, while Fernando Calero got his marker to go home a late free kick.

Rayo Vallecano 0-1 Villarreal

Rayo Vallecano strives to achieve a European place for the first time in two decades, but their recent form has stuttered.

The defeat in Barcelona in midweek ended their undefeated series of the beginning of 2025 and they lost at home to Villarreal to let the table slide further.

Despite the prospect of using the power of Vallecas, the first half dismissed Jorge de Frutos the home team disrupted.

Just like the Espanyol victory at Alaves, a late chance decided the result, while ayoze Perez shot home from close up.

Valencia 0-3 Atletico Madrid

It was more routine for Atletico Madrid in Valencia when Julian Alvarez brought himself to nine competition goals for the season with a first half in the Estadio Mestalla.

That dented every chance that Los Che produced something special against the title hunters when Angel Correa came from the bank to win the victory for Diego Simeone.
