La Liga side confirm plan to sign Barcelona star in January window

Girona director Quique Carcel dropped a major hint this month about his plan to sign Eric Garcia.

The Catalan side have been linked with a renewed move for Garcia, despite increasing interest in him from Serie A.

Garcia impressed on a season-long loan to Girona last season as the club sealed a first-ever UEFA Champions League qualification berth.

After failing to agree a summer deal, the noise from Barcelona has been about their willingness to keep the Spaniard on international duty despite his lack of first-team prominence.

However, Barcelona's ongoing financial uncertainty means sales are always possible, and Girona could test the situation in the coming days.

Carcel is convinced Garcia would prefer to stay in Spain, but admits the deal has to work for Girona.

“In the summer he was a player we wanted to bring in and now he is playing games for Barça and doing quite well,” DAZN said, via Marca.

“Our intention is to try to bring him back, but that depends on whether Barca can set conditions that are realistic for us, and maybe we can.”

Barcelona could demand around €20 million for the 24-year-old, which may be out of Girona's price range, and they will look to reduce that fee.

Girona are battling to secure a place in the last 16 Champions League play-offs this month, ahead of big games against AC Milan and Arsenal.
