La Liga side fume as “double standards” of Vinicius Junior sanction

On Tuesday, Real Madrid were informed that Vinicius Junior had been handed a two-match ban in La Liga following his red card against Valencia last weekend. It means the 24-year-old will not be available for matches against Las Palmas (home) and Real Valladolid (away) later this month.

Given the circumstances, this was the best possible outcome for Real Madrid, who will now have Vinicius available for the Spanish Super Cup. However, there is outrage over the sanction imposed by the Spanish Football Association's disciplinary committee, especially from Leganes.

According to Diario AS, the Madrid club are furious that Vinicius has only been suspended for two matches, as their player Oscar Rodriguez was handed a four-match ban for a similar incident during last month's 5-2 home defeat to Villarreal – club officials It is said that they are “in disbelief” about the apparent “double standards.”

While this was the best-case scenario for Real Madrid, they are hoping for no sanction at all for Vinicius as an appeal is expected to be filed within the next 24 to 48 hours. They believe that a punishment would be unjust given the circumstances, as the Brazilian was allegedly racially abused at the time of the incident with Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.
