La Liga tell Barcelona further documentation is needed to register duo

Barcelona are doing everything they can to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in the next 36 hours, knowing that if they don't, neither will be able to play for the rest of the season. They are working on various plans to make that possible.

One of these is a judicial suspension of the 'deregistration' of Olmo and Victor, which they argue as an infringement of the players' right to work. Their original case was dismissed and they have now taken it to another court, with a decision expected today.

The other option is to increase their salary cap, which they would like to do through asset sales. The Blaugrana have already sent the contract documents to La Liga to ensure maximum speed in the registration of the players. The Catalan giants plan to sell the commercial rights to their VIP boxes at Camp Nou to two Qatari companies over the next 20 years for around €100 million, Marca says, although other reports put that figure at €120 million.

However, La Liga wants to be extra careful with Barcelona. They will demand documents proving the money in Barcelona's accounts before signing the change in their salary cap, and thus the registrations of Olmo and Victor. Barcelona believes the deal could be completed today, but is not yet 100% complete, although both parties have already signed three main contracts.

It makes sense for La Liga to be cautious with these deals, as Barca Vision's sales have seen the Blaugrana rake in just €40 million of the €200 million they should have raised. Those deals have since burned a hole in their salary cap, following a year in which the Blaugrana would suffer losses. A broader question worth asking is whether selling assets for just one star signing is value for money.
