According to AS, the La Liga season 2024–25 saw a record-breaking 189 VAR interventions, which surpassed the previous record of 179 interventions in the 2022-23 season.
This increase is attributed to:
• A higher number of referee errors this season, and
• The debut of semi-automated offside technology, which made more precise (millimeter level) decisions about outdoor pin goals possible.
Of the 189 interventions:
• 62 were related to goals
• 86 were related to penalties
• 40 were red card decisions
• 1 concerned a wrong identity
