According to reporting by Tom Bogert and Tom Jacobs for Givemesport, the transfer costs are expected to be around $ 20 million. Lafc is willing to cover the costs, partly thanks to the income generated by their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
Although the deal has not yet been completed, Lafc head coach Steve Cherundolo was asked about the potential arrival of Son during a press conference prior to Tuesday's match against Tigres Uanl.
“Nothing is official, so I really can't comment on it,” said Cherundolo. “He is a player I think every team in our competition, or even in the world, would like to have in their selection. But because nothing has been confirmed, I will comment on further comments.”
What kind of Lafc now?
In anticipation of the arrival of SON and the integration of other summer signs, Lafc is aimed at the last match of the group stage in the 2025 Leagues Cup. The Black & Gold-Gastheer Tigres on Tuesday evening in a must-win game.
Lafc is currently three points after two games against Mazatlán and Pachuca. A victory in 90 minutes against TIGC would give Lafc six points and could achieve a place under the top four teams in their group, earn a place in the Knock Rondonde.
“We are about two -thirds of the road through the season,” said Cherundolo. “We have experienced a lot – some injuries, some setbacks – but also good luck. At the moment we are aimed at making a last push to end strong.”
“With the reinforcements that come in, I think we are in a great position to close the season as we started. That is the most important goal, and we have to work there every day.”
Cherundolo on the 2025 Leagues Cup
Cherundolo also shared his thoughts about the importance of the League Cup.
“It's a big competition for us,” he said. “We usually don't get the chance to face Liga MX teams, so this is a great opportunity from both a coaching and entertainment perspective.”
“It is a collision of cultures – on the field and out – and I think that's what makes it so attractive. You see the passion, the intensity, the goals … sometimes even the red cards that we don't like to see, but it shows how much these games matter.”
“Our focus is to ensure that we impose our playing style on our opponent, not the other way around.”
