Lampard makes shock admission about his second stint as Chelsea boss

Frank Lampard is open about his return to Chelsea as a boss in 2023 – when he was used to pick up the pieces after the short -term reign of Graham Potter.

The blues struggled in the early days of their new property after Todd Boehly and Blueco's takeover of the club in the spring of 2022, so that the American business people bought the club from fan favorite owner Roman Abramovic.

Thomas Tuchel had left the club, with Potter and then lasted a little more than six months in the lead before he was relieved of his duties with Chelsea struggling in the Premier League.

Lampard answered the SOS call from the club to lead the side to the end of the season and stepped up in the time of his former side to lead them to the end of the campaign until Mauricio Pochettino was appointed.

It was the second time that Lampard was in charge of the side, after a stay of 18 months between July 2019 and January 2021 before he was also released.

Now the Coventry boss has lifted the lid in the state of what he found when he walked back in Stamford Bridge – and it is not easy to read for the current owners of the club.

“I have seen things that I know cannot be with Elite Voetbal and that is the truth,” Lampard told Sky Sports. 'I didn't like to work in that short period, because it is difficult to capture an idea when you leave, but Chelsea will always be a huge club in my life.

'But if I understand the standards of Chelsea – during that period many players were in the transition from perhaps departure and some problems and motivation were a problem – you can't really influence that in an interim period.

'If you see its results, I am experienced enough to know what is good and what is wrong and fundamental things in a training field at a pitch.

“I didn't learn anything tactically, but it strengthened my beliefs of all my experiences if you know what a group really fights in the same direction – how strong that is and when it is not, it can really be a challenge.”

Lampard spent 13 years at Chelsea as a player and is the top scorer of the club of all time with 211 goals in 648 games.

There he won three Premier League titles and one Champions League, before leaving in 2014 when Abramovic still led the show.

As manager of the club, he led Chelsea to fourth place in the Premier League and the FA Cup final, but was fired when the club was ninth.

When Boehly and Co took over, the club was now criticized for signing so many players, with reports that suggest that players had to sit on the ground during team meetings because of the large numbers in the team.

Lampard was then left to clean up the mess before handing it to former Spurs boss Pochettino.

Now he enjoys success with Coventry in the championship, so that they take fifth place in the second division table, where they are serious contenders to compete for a place in the Premier League of next season.
