Last UFC star from WEC might follow Dustin Poirier into retirement: ‘More to life than fighting’

The UFC is almost from all their WEC hunters after the retirement of Dustin Poirier.

On Saturday, the former UFC interim light weight champion challenged the BMF title in his last MMA fight against Max Holloway on UFC 318 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Poirier and Holloway closed their trilogy in style, where Holloway won a hard -fought unanimous decision in five rounds of action.

Postin Poirier After the fight, the gloves put down in the Octagon and marked his retirement after 41 professional fights.

As a result, the UFC is an active hunter from their extreme cagfighting (WEC) ERA -the MMA promotion in which many UFC champions hit gold for the first time, such as Jose Aldo and Dominick Cruz, who are also retiring this year.

The UFC merged the WEC schedule in 2011, with Poirier one of the many selection names to cross.

WEC -Veteraan Cub Swanson who tends to retire

Cub Swanson has thought about it for a while to retire from the Vecht game.

The 44-Fight veteran has only a few fights than Poirier and took part 8 times under the WEC banner before he joined the UFC selection in 2011.

Swanson, 41, won his last fight through the first round knockout against Billy Quarantillo in UFC Tampa in December. Afterwards, Swanson revealed that he told his wife that it might be his last fight, because that is what she wanted.

Months later, Swanson has still not made the official decision to retire.

“I am considering my retirement since my manager died,” Swanson told MMA Today's RJ Clifford.

“When I went into that fight with Giga [Chikadze in 2021]I just looked like, man, there is more to life than fighting, and this is all I have done so long. I then decided that I had to concentrate on what is coming after fighting.

“I focused on everything I want to do after fighting.

“And it turns out that coaching has been what I feel like I have to pretend,” said Swanson.

'I felt like that [UFC Tampa] Would be my last fight, and I told my wife because we talked about it. But I don't want to be one of those people who is, like, I am retired, not removed, you know?

“I want to know for sure, and that's why I have not retired yet, but that option is still there. I tend to no longer fight, but if the UFC offered me something that has excited me, then I do it.

“That is my decision and that of no one else,” Swanson said about possibly fighting again.

Cub Swanson holds victories over Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira

For years, Swanson fought against the WHOs WHO of the Divisions of the UFC and WEC Federweight.

Swanson challenged the then WEC champion Jose Aldo for the title in 2009 and was short. 'Killer' CUB also fought former UFC champion Jens Pulver and former title chadel Chad Mendes in the WEC.

In the Octagon, Swanson's best victories against future champions Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira came when they still competed at 145 pounds.

Swanson Tko has a 22-year-old Oliveira in 2012 and a year later he decided Poirier for his second UFC loss after 'the Korean zombie'.

Swanson has a record of 15-10 in the UFC.
