Lavia’s personal physio bemused over injury misery as mystery continues

Romeo Lavia is seen as the future of the midfield of Chelsea, but this season the Belgian talent has had difficulty maintaining fitness that only one Premier League performance made during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge

The physio of Romeo Lavia has shared his bewilderment about the rotten happiness of the Chelsea midfielder with injuries. David Bombeke, founder of physiotherapy company Rev. Training, has worked with both the Belgian and Chelsea in an attempt to retain the fitness of the 21-year-old.

But even he is stunned by Lavia's accident after a series of substantial muscular problems. Lavia made only one Premier League performance in his debut season at Stamford Bridge – only played 22 minutes – after his £ 53 million transfer from Southampton in August 2023. He also marked this time only 11 times in the top flight after he recently sealed his return to action by the Bench in the 1-0 defeat.

Bombeke said to the Belgian newspaper HLN: “A one -off serious injury is of course also a setback, but he rolls this from injury to injury and has been out a few times.

“Given the circumstances, he has to do well with it. Of course something like that comes in your head, but Romeo realizes that it can be solved. He doesn't see it fatalistic – this is going to stop one day, right?”

After he missed five Premier League matches with a hamstring tribe about the festive period, Lavia was finally back on the field for the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in January.

However, he was injured again and would be out of the next six league matches, but there is now careful optimism that the former Manchester City Youth Starlet will be suitable for playing a role in Chelsea's search for both Champions League qualification and Conference Competition Listory.

Enzo Maresca recently said about the Belgian: “Last year he played one game and this year he played around 15 games. When we see it that way, it is an improvement. More or less the same thing happens to Wes [Fofana]. Last year he played zero games and this year he always played.

“You can't go from one season in which you don't play games to the next play of 40 games. You have to be happy with 20-25 and probably the year after you can play 40.

“For Romeo I feel sad for him because I know that he wants to be part of the game every weekend, but unfortunately he is injured again. But hopefully he can be back and help us in the last games of the season because we only have 16 games of the season and we hope to have Romeo back for the last 10.”
