Lecce chief ‘delighted’ with Man Utd transfer talks as he reveals Patrick plan

Leece president Saverio Sticchi Damiani has confirmed they have met with Manchester United to discuss a move for Patrick Dorgu, but insists they do not want to sell.

The Red Devils set their sights on Dorgu this month and have started talks with the Serie A team. The Danish defender, who is currently impressing in Italy, has emerged as a top target for United as they look to bring in players who will help Ruben Amorim's new system.

Dorgu is seen as a perfect fit for the 3-4-3 philosophy implemented at Old Trafford, with a number of members of the current squad unable to fill the role.

United officials have traveled to Italy to open talks with Lecce over a transfer for Dorgu. It is understood that United are willing to increase their initial offer to €30 million (£24 million). However, the Italian club are sticking with €40 million (£32 million), although a compromise of €35 million (£28 million) could be reached.

The Lecce president was delighted that the Manchester team were interested, but insisted they wanted to keep their player. He told Sky Sports: “We met Man Utd and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players including Patrick Dorgu. We are happy that Man Utd are here to make an offer, but our The goal is to stay in Serie A.” is crucial.”

United have not been smart in the transfer market, but want to get rid of that reputation. Failure to get a deal over the line will be seen as a huge miss, especially given their need to add more quality to their ranks.

Amorim has given candid assessments of his team, claiming last month that they “didn't have a lot of quality, but a lot of heart”. The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 by Brighton on Sunday as their shortcomings continued to be exposed.

The new manager knew there was a lack of money to strengthen his team in the new year, but the continued run of poor results could force the Old Trafford hierarchy into action. This is despite the fact that January is a notoriously difficult time to do good business.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, Wolves' Matheus Cunha, Ipswich centre-forward Liam Delap and Lille's Jonathan David are the four men on Amorim's shortlist if he can add more firepower to his attack.
